Obituary of Arthur Earnest Goodman

Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Arthur’s late father worked in the forestry industry and the family moved several times. Arthur lived in Fredericton, Iroquois Falls, New Zealand, Prince Albert, Vancouver and Quesnel. The Goodman family moved to Quesnel in 1966. Arthur attended the University of British Columbia (UBC) and graduated with a bachelor of Arts degree and a major in English in 1979, while working summers at Weldwood of Canada. As a young adult Arthur enjoyed travelling to Mexico City, Mazatlán, Spain, Gibraltar and the Canary Islands with his friends. Arthur worked in the pipeline and construction industries in Northern British Columbia, Alberta, and helped build the Revelstoke dam. He had his occupational first aid (OAF) ticket and was a proud Labours International Union of North America (LIUNA) member. Arthur loved helping people and previously volunteered with the Quesnel and District Highway Rescue.  He played on community beer league hockey teams. He looked forward to Friday lunch with his friends at the Cariboo Hotel.

In his younger years, Arthur was a Royal Canadian Sea Cadet (RCSC). Since 1992, he was a proud and loyal Royal Canadian Legion - Quesnel Branch #94 Associate Member.

He was a very kind, independent man who loved his siblings, all of his nieces, nephews, (and their respective partners), great nieces and great nephew. He formed close bonds with his tenants. Arthur was very devoted to his late parents. He regularly visited them when they resided in Dunrovin Lodge until they passed. He frequently kept in touch by phone with all his loved ones, even relatives in other provinces. Arthur was a very curious, smart and opinionated man who loved his books; hard copy or audio books and had an incredible thirst for knowledge and would share what he learned of significance with those close to him. He had a gift in that he inspired others to greater heights, guiding and believing in them while always having their back every step of the way.

Arthur will be greatly missed by his close friends, tenants and especially his siblings: Enid (Eugene Kelly), Nancy (Ray McCurrach), Eric & Phatcharin (Kat) Goodman and his nieces and nephews: Tennyson Kelly, Maximilian Kelly, Katrina McCurrach (Mike Conner), Monica (McCurrach) Murphy (Andrew Murphy), Jackie McCurrach, Bill McCurrach (Emily Hughes), Tara McInnes (Mathew), Emma Goodman (Colton), Authairat (Mai) Natbunchaui-Goodman.

A Celebration of Life for Arthur Goodman will take place on Saturday, May 31st, 2025 at 1:00 pm at St. John the Divine Anglican Church in Quesnel. A reception tea will follow at the Anglican Church Hall, and at 5:00 pm there will be a farewell toast to Arthur at the Royal Canadian Legion, Quesnel Branch #94.
