Obituary of Roy Miller
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, and uncle, David ‘Roy’ Miller, of Quesnel, B.C.
Roy was a long-time resident of Quesnel and leaves behind his 5 children, Bill (Danielle) Hatch, Barry (Karen) Hatch, Kelly (Charlie) Blackstock, Dean (Angela) Miller, David (Christine) Miller, grandchildren Drew (Tamara( Hatch, Jamie (Sheila) Hatch, Erin (Sean) Harron, Kara (Kurtis) King, Braden (Danais) Miller, Camille (Jarvis)Anderson, Taylor Blackstock, Devon Blackstock, Natalie (Jim) Rawsthorne, Candice Manning, and Rusty (Katie) Manning, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Roy was pre-deceased by his parents, Lewis and Jenny Miller, brothers Fred, John, Jim, sisters Mary, Bessy, Ruth and Dorothy, daughter Bonnie Locke and grand-daughter Alaina Manning, as well as the love of his life and first wife, Janice Miller (nee Trueman) and second wife, Hilda Miller (nee Dobbin).
Roy was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, the youngest of eight. At the age of 4, he and his family moved to the Kootenays, where his youth was spent ‘honing’ his favourite sports of fishing and hunting, which he enjoyed well into his 80’s. As a young man, he hired on the railroad in Williams Lake and Quesnel as a locomotive engineer and ran the steam engines of freight and passenger trains until they switched to Diesel. From there, he became a big game hunting guide and had several jobs throughout B.C. that showed he was a man of many talents. He settled back into Quesnel in 1973, where he remained near family until his death.
Roy had an artistic side of him as well. He loved carpentry, wood-carving and painting pieces of art, much of which were gifts and treasured by his family and friends. He was an amazing gardener and always provided veggies for his family and half the neighbourhood.
Wherever he may be, we hope he has found his favourite fishing hole or is dancing with his favourite ‘gal’ somewhere in the great blue yonder. He was loved and will be missed.
