Geertruda (Gertie) Baukina Buit
September 17, 1932 – May 20, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gertie Buit of Chilliwack, who passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, in Quesnel, BC, at the age of 92.

Gertie was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on September 17, 1932, and grew up a city girl in her beloved hometown. In June 1952, she married her late husband, Hendrik Jan Buit, and together they raised two sons and three daughters.

She enjoyed cross-stitching, puzzles, and especially loved playing Yahtzee and dominos. 

Gertie was predeceased by her husband, Hendrik Jan Buit, and her son, Jacob Ralph “Jack” Buit, both of whom she lost to cancer.

She is survived by her son Dick (Kathy) and their 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; her late son Jack (Gina) and their 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; her daughter Henrietta (Aurel) and their 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; her daughter Marilyn (Tim) and their 2 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter; and her daughter Lucy (Calvin) and their 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on May 26th at 11:00 AM
at the Canadian Reformed Church

She will always be remembered for her sassiness and her beautiful smile.
