Obituary of George Foka
George Walter Bruno Foka 1932 – 2019
George was born in Germany January 5, 1932 where he lived, was educated and worked until immigrating to Canada. He traveled with friends throughout Canada finally settling in Wells, BC in 1956, where he met Anni, who would turn out to be the love of his life. Together, George & Anni raised three children, Henry, Annemarie & Frank, and a grandchild, Jeff. Sadly in 1996 Anni died leaving George on his own. He chose to live out his life living alone but interacting with & enjoying the support of his family. George took a great deal of pleasure watching everyone grow while developing & shaping their lives. The family has always been supportive and tightly knit in just the way Anni & George would have liked them all to be.
George had a varied working career. He worked hard, always willing & able to do what was required to get the job done. Arriving in Wells, he became an underground hard rock miner. This job lasted until his partner died in a cave-in. George then became a sawmill worker. He was an edger-man with the Wells-Barkerville sawmill until the mill burned. George then became a certified millwright. This change resulted in a move to Fraser Lake where he worked for Endako Mines. George then began as a millwright in Quesnel with Weldwood where he worked until his retirement. In 1973 Anni & George purchased their new home in Quesnel where they lived out their lives.
George always enjoyed the outdoors, walking, hiking, hunting & fishing. He spent many wonderful hours in the backwoods around Wells & Quesnel with his sons and at times with his friends. These hours were always special.
George W. B. Foka died peacefully on April 10, 2019 at the age of 87 in GR Baker hospital in Quesnel BC with daughter Annemarie at his side. Granddaughter Sarah, Daughter in law Kathy and friend John were also present.
