Aunt Meta, and family,
Some 55 years ago I read two quotations I have never forgotten,
Small minds talk about people;
Bigger minds talk of things;
Great minds contemplate ideas.
Stick close to the man who has the germ of an idea -
it might just be contagious!
Only dementia can rob the memory of an Uncle who was well read -
who always had an idea to contemplate or share. He knew so much on a host of differing topics - A visit with him was always a time of learning. He was well prepared to defend his ideas or perspectives, but he did it so graciously, If I disagreed, I never felt defeated or wrong. His gift was teaching, he practiced it well.
Our last visit - almost a full 3 years back - he was already just a shell of the man he once was, but it was interesting to see his social graces and concerns for us / our well being, had not abated.
Uncle, I wished so often that I lived closer, that I could have enjoyed your company more often. I would so much like to say farewell in person
on Saturday, give you a hug Aunt Meta - sit and listen to you Marilyn and Roland, Carol and Ken, but alas I feel only able to send my hug in prayer
that it will be a special time together of reflection and gratefulness
for a life well lived.
I will cherish my memories fondly - peace, comfort and blessings to you, from Wayne and Bernice
