Obituary of Helen Annie Vooys - Pierson - Williams
Helen Annie Vooys-Pierson-Williams was born at Lacombe, AB. on December 12, 1928 and passed away peacefully from natural causes in her sleep on January 18th, 2020 in Quesnel, BC at the age of 91 years.
Helen is survived by daughters Maxine Kalinski, Quesnel, BC; and Wendy Bohn, Dawson Creek, BC; son George Pierson of Red Deer, AB; sister Louise Dennis and step-sister Donna Pierson (Gerald), and stepsons Kenneth and Wesley Williams.
There are eleven grandchildren: Greg, Teresa, Troy, Tara, Andrea, Fiona, Matthew, Naomi, Smokey, Keilly and Kelsey.
Eleven great-grandchildren: Ashleigh, Tanner, Austyn, Matteah, Kiona, Charisa, Kenneth, Atlin, Hudson, Nora and Alexis.
Three great-great-grandchildren: Cameron, Jackson; and Emily.
She is predeceased by her parents Arie and Irene Vooys, brother Arie (Bud) Vooys, sisters Dorothy Vooys and Polly Reaney and son-in-law Paul Kalinski, brother-in-law Bill Dennis and stepson Kevin Williams. Husbands Lloyd Pierson in 1961 and Donald Williams in 2008.
Helen received her education in one-room school houses in the Morningside area and the Lacombe Nelson School. After receiving a Secretarial Certificate from the Red Deer College, Helen was employed with Red Deer law firm Lockerby, Barlow and Siewert for many years.
After an early retirement and moving to Lacombe, Helen volunteered with several organizations including the Girl Guides, Michener House Museum, Lacombe Nursing Home Auxiliary, Salvation Army Home League and the Lacombe Women’s Institute.
Hobbies were quilting, genealogy, and writing her Book of Memories. A trip to the Netherlands to visit the Vooys relatives was a very special occasion. She had lived most of her years in Central Alberta before moving to Quesnel in May 2010.
Funeral service will be held at Quesnel’s Northstar Baptist Church on Saturday, January 25th, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.
Internment to follow on Mother’s Day, May 10th, 2020, at the Fairview Cemetery in Lacombe, Alberta.
