Phyllis Glazier (Erb)

July 25, 1928 ~ July 5, 2020

Mum was born in Allan Saskatchewan and she was her parent’s  9^th child.  When she was 4 years old, her father died and life was rough and very poor in the dirty 30’s.  Thanks to Mum’s older sister Chris, Mum was able to board with the Nuns for almost 2 years before coming to BC.  She lived and worked on a ranch and then Chris moved her to Vancouver with her.  There, she worked at Jones Tent & Awning, then with her sister at School for the Deaf and Blind. 

Both Mum and her sister met and married their mates.  Mum married Norman Glazier (deceased in January 2000) and together they had 3 children and were married for 53 years.  Mum was a good cook, and great baker with bread and buns of all descriptions being her specialty; all of which she made weekly and gave away freely.   Dad played piano and Mum sang and after we all completed our piano lessons, Mum decided to take them as well.  One thing we are thankful for is that Mum made sure we attended Catholic school.   She was a perfectionist when it came to sewing, for herself and others.

When Dad passed, she did drawings; very detailed bird pictures.  Mum was lonely, but sold Dad’s truck and was finally able to realize her dream of a trip to Rome and Medjugorje. 

In 2004 she met and married Earl Erb.  In 2012, after a stroke, we realized that Mum had been slowly developing dementia and was soon institutionalized in Dunrovin, Maple House until her death.

Earl and Mum were walkers and walked and visited local areas and trails and he would take her out regularly.  Earl passed away in Dunrovin, a victim of dementia on September 25^th, 2019.

Mum was very close to her birth family and loved to cook, bake and visit with all of them.  She was also involved with church, Catholic Women’s League and especially the Legion of Mary.  For 17 years she did the church linens, washing and mending. 

Mum’s dementia was a learning curve for all with patience and kindness winning out.  We learned to accept the different you, sometimes refusing to be close, but other times still able to hold your hand, hug you, laugh and talk.  Thank you Mum.  Rest in peace.
