Obituary of Marilyn May Wells
On July 6 2021 long time Quesnel resident, Marilyn Wells, passed away peacefully at her home.
Marilyn moved to Quesnel with her parents, George and Dorothy Hook, in time for her to complete Grade 12 and graduate with the class of 1964. By 1966 she had begun a teaching career of more than 30 years in Quesnel District schools. Many Quesnel residents, their children, and grandchildren will remember “Mrs. Wells”. She was known for her ability to manage a classroom full of children with diverse backgrounds and needs. She liked to include a year-end bus trip to Barkerville on her class education plan. Some years she was even convinced to be the Christmas Concert Producer.
After retirement Marilyn became an enthusiastic volunteer and contributor to many Quesnel organizations. She travelled to other countries to explore new places and visit friends. Her special “curling buddies” and gardening friends will miss her this year.
Marilyn’s illness descended upon her without warning. The “Teacher” worked hard to complete the tasks she still had on her list. But the illness was aggressive, relentless and unforgiving. Marilyn struggled to get her lists in order before the illness took control, even including extra detailed instructions for the person that she had assigned to carry out her wishes.
Family and friends were privileged to spend time gathering to visit with her and each other at her home in the days just before her passing. Thank you to all who came from near and far; to the nightshift volunteers, the homecare nurses and medical care.
Marilyn has asked that her “send off” be a service at the United Church followed by a gathering of family and friends and maybe a picnic. Her words” I want people to have fun and be funny”
We are looking forward to carrying out Marilyn’s wishes; perhaps in April when the weather is suitable for travel and the Spring flowers bloom
