Joseph Thomas Upwood “Joe”

February 5, 1949 - May 8, 2022

Joe passed away peacefully while in hospital in Quesnel, BC, at the age of 73. He was born in London Ontario, and had 4 other siblings. Joe’s parents passed away when he was young, and he and his siblings were adopted out to separate families. Joe’s adoptive family moved to BC, and Joe spent many years in Campbell River before moving to Prince George. He worked at the Prince George Native Friendship Centre as a custodian for several years, during that time he became a good friend to many of the staff and clients.

Joe will be remembered fondly as a hard working and kind man who loved to help others, and whose positive attitude, and friendly nature was greatly appreciated by those who knew him. Joe would always help people out whenever he could; whether it was helping someone move, shoveling snow, childminding, or cooking a big turkey dinner for his neighbours and friends. Joe also had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening.

Joe loved animals and at one time, many years ago, he ran a dog kennel. The last pets Joe ever owned were his beloved ferrets Ming Ming and Panda, and he was heartbroken when they passed away.

Joe took great pride in staying physically fit, he would work out on his exercise machine daily, and he would walk or ride his bike everywhere as he explored the beauty of nature in nearby parks and trails. Never one to sit still, Joe always kept himself busy. We will miss his great sense of humour, his teasing, his kindness and generosity. For now the Angels will enjoy Joe’s presence, until we meet again!
