FAY ERNEST SANKEY Fay has been the most content, caring, and calm person we have ever known. He married my sister Lynette, and their love and devotion to each other, and their family, was obvious throughout their entire 68+ years of marriage. With both of our families living in Quesnel, Lynette often invited me to visit at their home, and I enjoyed time spent with my nephew Ernie when he was an infant. In fact, I thought of Ernie as my little brother because the age difference was the same as that between one of my brothers and myself. From 1956, when the rest of our family moved away from Quesnel, Fay and Lynette were the family members who travelled most to visit us wherever our current residence was: Saskatchewan, Alberta, or British Columbia. A lake, or river, and water events seemed synonymous with the Sankey family. • In 1962, on the beach at their home on the Quesnel, Lake, I first observed the spawning of salmon. The lake seemed full of blood red Sockeye Salmon. • As a teenager in the Quesnel area and on a family outing with them, Fay taught me how to water ski at McCleese Lake, a thrilling event for me. • Dennis and our sons appreciated a fishing trip with Fay to Bowron Lake. • Fay and Lynette and their family members enjoyed many fishing trips to Bella Coola • I was with Lynette the day she discovered the Dragon Lake property where they have lived happily for decades. • In 1986, they hosted the 50th wedding anniversary of our parents at the beach. Fay was computer literate and enjoyed exploring online, updating his knowledge of the world, and learning new concepts. We always enjoyed an interesting visit. During our last visit, on Apr 13, 2022, I snapped the included spur-of-the-moment photo which managed to capture Fay. He was looking forward to planting his garden and was pleased with the gazebo his son had recently installed at the beach. It is a nice memory for us to hold onto. Our impromptu reciprocal visits after retirement were always enjoyable, and we will miss Fay’s presence in our world. Dennis & Merilyn Scheck (& Family)
