Obituary of Nita Lane

Nita Pearl Lane, 83, of Quesnel BC passed away peacefully on January 29^th 2023 at Dunrovin Lodge in Quesnel after a nine month stay under the best of care.

Nita was born in Penticton BC on July 7^th 1939.  Her parents were Peter and Alice Perk.  Nita had five other siblings, Merie, Elmer, Ida, Herbert and John.  She is predeceased by both her parents and daughter Julie.

She is survived by her husband Randy, her children Susan Dutrizac (Dave), Kelly Gagnon (Barry), and John (Keri) as well as seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Nita spent most of her early school years in the Salmon Arm, Vernon BC areas.  She attended Canadian Union College in 1954 and most of her youth was in the Silver Creek/Salmon Arm area.

She married John Lane in 1957 with whom she had four children.  They were married for 18 years.  She then married Randy Pike in 2013 while being together for 47 years.

Over the years Nita had various jobs including Island Natural Gas, The Quesnel Golf Club and Richbar Nursery.

Nita participated in many sports with golf, bowling and curling being her favourites.  It was always golf in the spring and summer and bowling in the fall and winter months.  She reached high levels in both sports, going to numerous tournaments all over the province, including Provincial Gold Amateurs.  She was well known for winning Barb Smith and Club Championship Tournaments far too numerous to list.  Nita also loved watching hockey on TV or live.  The Canuck s and her grandchildren’s games being her favourites.

Probably her biggest passion was gardening.  She transformed a new property into a beautiful back yard at her Roddis Drive home, of which she was very proud.

An article was done in Gardens West magazine about her yard, showing her rose beds in which she planted roses for each grandchild.  Growing tomatoes was another passion.

Nita also had a big hand along with others in starting the Quesnel Golf Club’s flower beds and rockeries for which she cared for during the years she worked at the club.  These areas were widely known amongst golfers from all around the region and much appreciated.

Nita also loved Christmas time and decorated many trees for herself and friends all the while playing Christmas music.

Nita’s family would like to extend many thanks to the staff of Dunrovin Lodge, GR Baker Memorial Hospital, her doctor and all her many friends who were always visiting or inquiring about Nita for many years.  Nita will be greatly missed by all that knew her smile and attention she gave to one and all.  She will be remembered fondly by all of us.

There will be a Celebration of Life held in the spring time for Nita, and details will be updated once known.
