Donna Hewson

Obituary of Donna May Hewson

Donna was born in Sheridan, Manitoba. She was raised with her 3 younger siblings in Sheridan and Flin Flon, Manitoba before the family moved to Cedar, BC on Vancouver Island  and then Vancouver where Donna graduated in June 1957 from the Fairview High School of Commerce.

After graduation Donna worked at the Royal Bank in Vancouver.  Donna married  Ron on December 20, 1958 at St. Georges Church in Vancouver and they moved to Prince George where the twins Brian and Brenda were born in 1961. They moved back to Vancouver and bought a house and Donna went back to work until Mark was born in 1964.

Donna raised 3 children in the home they bought in Richmond and later the Stata home with a swimming pool complex they bought in Steveston while Ron worked building a business creating

fun happy family times for all.

Donna and Ron built a boat access only summer cabin in Deep Cove, North Vancouver with Donna and Ron ensuring her 3 adult children now have the best childhood family memories of weekend and summer fun boating, waterskiing, fishing and evening campfires always shared with friends and family.

Donna returned to work as the executive secretary at BC Packers Cannery in Steveston when the 3 children were teens and enjoyed many weekend trips on the boat they bought after they sold the summer cabin cruising the Gulf Islands with friends and family.

In 1980 Donna and Ron sold the family home and bought the Poplar Beach Resort campsite where Donna ran the seasonal campsite business and store with Ron at Green Lake until they sold it, and bought a home down the lake on Point Road.  At Green Lake they welcomed family and friends year round and hosted Xmas every year for family giving their 3 adult children and 2 grandchildren many happy memories.

Donna and Ron made many lifetime friends along the way and kept in touch but the best memories and stories we heard repeatedly were those of their fun and adventures with their best friends they made while living at Green Lake for more than 25 years.

Honestly it should be illegal for adults to have as much fun as Donna and Ron had but they are forgiven because they created and shared the fun with family, friends and grandchildren Donna loved and spoiled.

Donna and Ron moved to Quesnel to be closer to Donna’s siblings, shopping and medical facilities as they aged and made friends with wonderful kind supportive neighbours.  Donna became Grandma D to Dennis and Rebecka Harding’s 4 boy across the street filling in babysitting when needed giving Donna and Ron great joy watching the 4 boys grow from babies to teens.  She was so happy to see them when they all came to visit her in June as recovered from her May hip surgery.

Donna was so grateful for the help of great friends and neighbours especially her only surviving sibling Trudy who helped care for her after Ron died in 2020 until she passed.

God/Jesus called Donna home to continue the fun and love with Ron, family and friends waiting for her in heaven.

We miss her but Donna’s love lives on still here on Earth with all of us and she is watching over us all until we too are called home to join her.
