Obituary of Susan Jean Zacharias
In loving memory of Susan Jean Zacharias, who passed away quietly at home on September 6th 2023, surrounded by love.
Sue was born July 25th, 1949 to Gordon and Shirley Carlson, in Vancouver, BC. In 1967 she moved to Williams Lake and began a family.
After being a “Stay at home Mum “until the early 80’s, Sue joined the workforce again at the Station House Gallery. Sue then went on to selling advertising at the Williams Lake Tribune. After 5 years at the Tribune, Sue joined Cariboo GM CHEV OLDS and had a successful career in sales. Sue was their first vehicle “saleswoman” [salesperson].
In 1998 Sue married Paul Zacharias and joined him at his business, United Concrete and Gravel Ltd., until 2023, upon semi-retirement or working on projects from home. Sue was not a hobby or craft person; however, she loved people and their personal, unique and interesting life stories.
Sue had a lifelong love of horses and engaged in Endurance Riding in the 1980’s and early 90’s.
Sue served as Director for Area “D”, on the Board of Directors for the Cariboo Regional District from 2005-2008. Sue then ran for election as a City Councillor, for the City of Williams Lake, and served terms from 2008-2011, from 2011 to 2014 and from 2014 to 2018 when she retired from community service as a Councillor. Sue enjoyed serving the Community and helping to bring change, growth and innovation to the Williams Lake area.
Sue is survived by her devoted husband Paul, children Cindy [Colin] Ross, Brandy [Scott Clay] Buller, and Travis [Arin] Buller. Also her stepchildren Kim Zacharias and Dawn [Vance] Josephy along with 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Our family, our community, our world, is poorer without her. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
