Born in Sudbury in 1976, Karima was raised in the traditions of her Ojibwe ancestors and the teachings of the Three Fires Midewiwin Lodge. As an adult she believed in the rights of people to achieve justice and a society in which all people would be welcome to share their gifts and talents to create a good life. Karima loved her family and surrounded herself with a circle of friends who lived in peace and cared for each other. She also loved the mountains and valleys of British Columbia and made her home there until her passing.
She is survived by her mother Gertie, stepfather Lloyd and father Jack Burning, siblings Adrian and Anungonhse, and Theresa and Toby Burning, Nieces Spring, Anastassia, nephews Angus, Calvin, and Declan. Also survived by uncle Peter (Deb), aunts June and Marlene. Cousins Tina, Jason and (predeceased Curtis), Valery Rose, Matthew, Christopher, Kaiden, Kenzie, Kelly, Roberta, Collin, and Shane. She also leaves many extended family members, Midewiwin Lodge family and a loving circle of friends in Quesnel British Columbia.
There will be services held for Karima Wednesday Nov 8, 2023 at Clayton's Funeral Chapel. 12:00pm-1:00pm with escort cremation to follow the service. For those not wishing to accompany Karima to the crematorium there is a tea that will be held for all at the Quesnel Friendship Center, where everyone will gather to remember Karima.
