Obituary of Beverly Isabel Gentles
Beverly Isabel Gentles, 78, of Quesnel, B.C., passed away on November 15, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Bev was a compassionate and loving wife, mother, and grandmother was a pillar of strength for her family and friends.
Bev was born in New Westminster, B.C. in 1945 to Louis and Brucella Folk. An avid student and a love of learning had Bev complete high school, including Grade 13 in Surrey, B.C. before moving North to share her knowledge, teaching at a small community school in the Cariboo Chilcotin. It was while teaching in the Cariboo that Bev met her husband of 57 years, Ernie Gentles. Bev and Ernie settled in Quesnel, raising four children while balancing life in town and on the ranch, they owned West of Quesnel.
Bev’s strong faith and outgoing personality meant she never met a stranger – always easy with a smile and a kind word she would engage with anyone and everyone – a true and supportive friend that touched the lives of countless individuals. This was never more evident than during her years as a letter carrier with Canada Post – it was not often you could walk down the street in Quesnel and not have someone say hello to her and for her to be able to tell you who they were, where they lived and something special or unique about that person.
Bev is survived by her devoted husband Ernie Gentles and her four children; daughter Debra Tataryn, sons Wes Gentles (Annika), Everett Gentles and Chris Gentles.
Also known as Momma, Bev was a proud grandmother to 6 grandchildren – Andrew, Kelly, Robin, Logan, Aurora and Caden.
As part of a very large family on both sides Bev leaves behind her sisters – Pat Pethick (Bob), Sylvia Riehl (Doug) and Anita Folk, many nieces and nephews and other extended family.
A celebration of her life will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday November 19, 2023 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church – 150 Sutherland Ave., Quesnel, B.C. V2J 2L5. The family will host a funeral reception following at 320 Ritchie Ave., Quesnel, B.C. V2J 3K9 and family and friends are invited to come together to honor the beautiful soul who brought love and care to so many.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Dunrovin Park Lodge – 900 St. Laurent Ave., Quesnel, B.C. V2J 3S3. The family would like to thank the staff at Dunrovin for the care and compassion they showed during our mother’s time there.
