Obituary of Mavis Winsora Goodman

Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Mavis attended U.N.B where she met, and then married, the love of her life, Hugh Goodman on Sept. 17th 1949. After graduation, Mavis taught school for one year before Hugh’s forestry career took them from the wilds of Northern Ontario camp life, to New Zealand and Saskatchewan, before settling in Quesnel in 1966 with their 4 children.  Quesnel life was a perfect fit. They both loved the outdoors.

Mavis was very involved in her community. Mavis and Hugh were awarded a lifetime Membership in 2008 in recognition for their contribution to x-country skiing in Quesnel. Mavis initiated the first Terry Fox Run in Quesnel and continued to volunteer and participate until 2017.

She loved to play bridge, cross country ski, bike ride, garden, and spend quality time with her grandchildren when they would come for visits. Often people remarked on her bike riding skills and were impressed she still rode her one speed CCM to town well into her 70s. Mavis was musically talented and loved to play the piano, sing with the Sweet Harmonies, and play with the Quesnel Bell Ringers.  She and Hugh were members of St John the Divine Anglican Church. Mavis was very involved serving the congregation through her volunteerism with the Anglican Church Women (ACW).

She will be greatly missed by her sons Arthur, and Eric (Kat), her daughters Enid (Eugene Kelly), Nancy McCurrach (Ray), her grandchildren; Tennyson, Maximilian, Katrina (Mike), Monica (Andrew), Jackie, Bill (Emily), Tara (Mathew), Emma (Colton), and her great grandchildren Reece, Linnea, Tia, Madison and Tyler; and her loving sister Elizabeth Malher (Norbert) and sister-in-law Kathleen Campbell.

She is predeceased by her husband Hugh, and brother Jack Pinder.

Thank you Dr. Obanye, all the staff and care aides of Dunrovin Park Lodge, we are forever grateful to each of you for demonstrating your unwavering caring compassion towards Mavis.

A memorial service will be held June 1, 2024 at St John the Divine Anglican Church.
