Obituary of Dennis Engebretson

Arnold “Dennis” Engebretson

May 19-1938 – July 24-2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dearly loved dad, grandad and great grandad, Dennis Engebretson on July 24, 2024 at 86 years of age. Dennis passed away peacefully surrounded by his children. In his final days he spent time enjoying his back deck overlooking the pond, sipping wine and sharing colorful stories of his past.

Born in Rimbey, Alberta, years later as Dennis remembers he and his sister Carol went to sleep one night and woke up in Ocean Falls, BC.  The family had moved. As a young kid Dad made a group of Ocean Falls friends that were very important to him.  He was known as “Sonny”. These friendships have lasted for well over 60 years.

Dennis started his long career as an electrician at Pacific Mills Pulp and Paper.

While in Ocean Falls, he met his future wife of 61 years, Patricia and they had their first child Gary.  Their jobs moved them to Nanaimo where they had Glen and Gail to complete their family.

Dennis had an opportunity to be an electrician at Cariboo Pulp and Paper during its construction and moved the family to Quesnel.  Years later he became a foreman in the electrical shop until retirement in 1998.

A long time Kersley resident, Dennis loved golf, but was best known for his music and entertaining.  Sitting around the campfire, everyone remembers him playing the guitar and singing songs.  His art ink drawings, model planes and sailboats and especially his bark carvings of Hobbit Houses, lighthouses and faces are incredible.

After retirement Dennis and Pat could be found yearly at Horse Lake fishing, and Snowbirding in Mission, Texas or Needles, California. Dennis made lifelong friends where ever he went.

Dennis is predeceased by his wife Pat, granddaughter Mallory and parents Bing and Vera. He is survived by his sister Carol, sons Gary (Shelley) and Glen (Dianne), daughter Gail (Gurdave), 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Dr. Van Dyk, his Medical Office Assistant Fab, Dr. Aziz and Dr. Kerezov for the kind and caring support Dennis received.  As well as Gurveer and Carrie from Walmart Pharmacy.

In lieu of flowers please support the Quesnel Seniors Centre.

At Dennis’ request there will be no service however he asked that you please raise a glass in his memory.
